Background:
Under the Indo German Bilateral Development Cooperation, the focal areas currently are:
• Energy;
• Environment and Management of Natural Resources; and
• Sustainable Urban Development
A new global programme of GIZ, "Soil Matters, " is being implemented in India and has three defined intervention areas. The first intervention area is to implement integrated and innovative approaches for sustainable land management and agroecology. This includes landscape-based planning and management approaches, as well as business models for the circular use of bioresources to enhance soil health and promote sustainable agriculture. The second intervention area is to develop and collate evidence from on-field models to support the development and recommendation of transformative initiatives at the national and state levels. This includes initiatives for scaling up landscape-based approaches, developing incentive models to promote sustainable agriculture and agroecology, and creating decision-support systems using remote sensing and artificial intelligence (AI) for soil health management. The third intervention area focuses on South–South knowledge exchange to contribute to national and global processes and policies on soil health through knowledge and technical exchange and knowledge co-creation.
Purpose of the Tender
The Soil Matters project is supporting partners in Maharashtra to promote natural farming and climate-resilient agriculture through the development and scaling of bio-resource-based business enterprises among farmer groups. The initiative aims to strengthen rural livelihoods through low-input, climate-resilient and sustainable agricultural systems, while promoting community ownership and institutional development. The project envisages supporting end-to-end enterprise models at project clusters through appropriate processing and value-addition infrastructure, with the objective of establishing multi-product agricultural processing units for various agricultural produce, along with the required allied infrastructure, at selected project cluster locations in Maharashtra. The initiative will also contribute to strengthening the capacities of farmers and farmer groups established by project partners for sustainable enterprise development and value addition.
